A Midsummer Night’s Dream Comes to MiraCosta

09/1/2026

Love gets tangled, fairies stir up trouble, and an enchanted forest turns everything upside down when MiraCosta College Theatre presents William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, September 24 through October 4 at the Oceanside Campus.

One of Shakespeare’s best-known comedies, A Midsummer Night’s Dream brings together runaway lovers, feuding fairies, and a troupe of enthusiastic amateur actors whose stories collide during one magical night in the forest. Filled with romance, mistaken identities, humor, music, and theatrical surprises, the production invites audiences into a world where love rarely goes according to plan.

The production is directed by longtime MiraCosta College theatre professor Tracy Williams, whose career as an educator, actor, and director spans more than four decades. Williams has taught and directed at MiraCosta for more than 20 years, mentoring hundreds of students and helping shape a theatre program focused on artistic growth, professional preparation, and the power of live performance.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream gives us everything we love about theatre: great storytelling, humor, romance, music, imagination, and just enough chaos,” said Williams. “But underneath all of the magic is a wonderfully human story about love and the lengths we will go to find connection. I’m especially excited for our students to bring this world to life and for audiences to experience the joy and energy they create together on stage.”

Williams was recently honored with the Kathy Brombacher Lifetime Achievement Award by Oceanside Theatre Company, recognizing her decades of contributions to theatre, education, and the North County arts community. In addition to her work at MiraCosta College, Williams helped found Oceanside Theatre Company and Southwest Shakespeare Company in Arizona.

MiraCosta College’s Theatre program gives students opportunities to develop their craft through classroom instruction and public performance while gaining experience in acting, directing, design, technology, and other areas of theatrical production. Mainstage productions also give the North County community access to affordable live theatre featuring MiraCosta students and faculty.
