Greetings Spartans,
As many of you begin classes today, I am also starting a new chapter at MiraCosta College. I recently joined the College as your Superintendent/President, and over the last two weeks, I have enjoyed visiting our campuses, meeting students and employees, and getting to know the MiraCosta community.
One thing has already become clear: MiraCostans are committed to student success.
Whether you are starting your first semester at MiraCosta, returning to continue your education, preparing to transfer, training for a new career, or working toward another goal, I want you to know that you have a place here.
As a first-generation college student and a veteran, I know that the path through college is not always straight or easy. Some students come directly from high school, while others return to college after time away, after serving in the military, or while balancing work, family, and other responsibilities. There can be moments when you are unsure of the next step, when balancing school with life feels difficult, or when you simply need someone to point you in the right direction. Those moments are part of the journey.
The beginning of a semester can be exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. If you need help, ask. You do not have to figure everything out on your own. Our faculty, counselors, classified professionals, administrators, and many others across the College are here to support you and help connect you with the resources you need.
Your success matters to us.
Make the most of your time at MiraCosta. Get to know your professors. Ask questions. Explore the programs and services available to you. Attend an event, join a club, or meet someone new. And if you run into a challenge, reach out. Sometimes asking for help is one of the most important things you can do. You have a community of support.
Every student comes to MiraCosta with a different background, experience, and goal. That is part of what makes this community so special. We learn from one another, we support one another, and we are all here because we believe in the opportunities education can provide.
As I begin my own journey at MiraCosta, I am excited to share this semester with you. I look forward to seeing you around our campuses, hearing about your experiences, and celebrating your successes along the way.
Thank you for choosing MiraCosta College. I hope you have a great first week and a successful fall semester.
With appreciation,
Lennor M. Johnson, Ed.D.
Superintendent/President
