MiraCosta College is proud to announce that it won the Golden Watchdog Award in Schools, recognizing its outstanding excellence in bond program management. The award, presented as part of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association’s 28th Annual Golden Watchdog Symposium, celebrates the best practices in public spending, decision-making, and governance across the region.

“We are incredibly honored to receive the Golden Watchdog Award for excellence in bond program management,” explained Tim Flood, Assistant Superintendent/Vice President of Administrative Services at MiraCosta College. “This recognition reflects our unwavering commitment to transparency, fiscal responsibility, and ensuring that every dollar invested in our campus serves our students and community to the fullest. We are proud of the collaborative efforts that made this achievement possible and will continue to prioritize efficient and impactful public spending as we enhance educational opportunities at MiraCosta College.”

MiraCosta College's bond program, supported by Measure MM, was acknowledged for its efficient management and transparency. Approved by voters in 2016, Measure MM authorized $455 million in general obligation bonds to modernize and upgrade college facilities, improve technology infrastructure, and support new construction projects. These enhancements ensure that MiraCosta students have access to state-of-the-art educational resources and facilities, positioning the college to meet the evolving needs of its growing community.

"Receiving this award is a tremendous honor, and we are both humbled and proud. It stands as a testament to MiraCosta's visionary leadership and the high standards they uphold across all their campuses. We are deeply grateful for this recognition, which reflects the hard work of our dedicated team and the invaluable contributions of our industry partners in making this program such a success," explains David Dunn, Program Director for Kitchell CEM.

The Golden Watchdog Award is a testament to MiraCosta College’s leadership in fiscal responsibility and its role in setting a high standard for public institutions throughout San Diego County. The annual event recognizes both achievements and challenges in public spending, and this year’s win marks a significant milestone in MiraCosta's ongoing efforts to deliver excellence in education and community service.
