A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned to celebrate the new Student Services Building opening at the Oceanside Campus.

The $62.1 million center provided for the consolidation of several student service functions previously scattered throughout the campus, including Admissions, Financial Aid, and Counseling, into a single, one-stop-shop.

The 54,500-square-foot building also provided MiraCosta's Veterans Center a new home. The Veterans Center benefited from $1.5 million in state funding awarded to help equip and furnish a lounge and resource area in the Center, among other enhancements.

"Today, we open doors not just to a building but to a space that honors our commitment to every student's success and well-being, and provides an environment that empowers each student to reach their highest potential," said Dr. Sunita Cooke, Superintendent/President of the MiraCosta Community College District.

"With its dedicated Veterans Center, this new student services building stands as a symbol of our deep gratitude for those who have served and our steadfast commitment to supporting all who walk through our campus," she added.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Monday, November 18, 2024, at 10 a.m. at MiraCosta's Oceanside Campus at 1 Barnard Drive. The event is open to the public. Please park in lot 5A. View map | Get directions

The new facility was funded through MiraCosta's capital improvement program using funds from Measure MM.

"We are grateful to our local voters for supporting Measure MM, which has made the transformation of our campuses possible," Cooke shared. "They have helped us make a critical investment in the future of education in North County San Diego and our local workforce."

The Student Services Building is strategically positioned to act as a gateway building for the campus, providing a much-needed sense of entry and easy wayfinding for new or prospective students.

The facility will promote safe and easy access and entry from the street level for visitors and campus promenade level for students.

The facility includes several unique design features:
  • A dramatic exterior staircase and an adjacent elevator will lead visitors from the plaza through a covered promenade and into the building.
  • Operable glass walls enhance the ability to integrate the outdoor gardens and gathering areas with the indoor spaces.
  • The park-like setting features extensive native species and drought-tolerant plantings
  • High-efficiency fixtures are used throughout the building.
  • Exterior and interior finishes feature eco-friendly materials with warm colors that complement Oceanside's natural coastal sage scrub habitats.
