A ribbon-cutting ceremony is planned to mark the opening of the new Theresia M. Heyden Hall for Nursing and Allied Health at the Oceanside Campus.

The $29.7 million facility will provide training facilities, simulation spaces, patient and operating rooms, and hands-on skills labs and classrooms outfitted with the latest healthcare technologies. The new building will support degree and certificate programs for several in-demand healthcare fields, including nursing, kinesiology, nutrition, health education, and careers as medical administrative professionals.

The 20,450-square-foot facility is named for Theresia M. Heyden, a long-time Oceanside resident and philanthropist.

The ribbon-cutting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21, at 10:00 a.m. at MiraCosta College, 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside. The event is open to the public. Please park in OC-5A. View map | Get directions

The Allied Health facility includes several unique design features:
Innovative and high-tech simulation spaces that mimic real-world clinical settings to enhance the student experience and serve to strengthen healthcare cost efficiencies and patient outcomes
Extensive use of natural light, which research has shown to improve student wellbeing and productivity
High-efficiency fixtures throughout
Exterior and interior finishes feature eco-friendly materials
Landscaping includes low-water and native species

The facilities were funded through MiraCosta’s capital improvement program using funds from Measure MM.

HMC Architects and Balfour Beatty Construction served as the Design/Build team for the project. Heyden Hall will be part of the Oceanside campus’s new Health and Wellness Academic Hub, which includes a new gymnasium complex and a Kinesiology, Health, and Nutrition Studies (KHAN) building.
