MiraCosta College Theatre is excited to announce the final production of its season, "Anon(ymous)", directed by the renowned Eric Bishop. This compelling reimagining of Homer’s Odyssey by celebrated playwright Naomi Iizuka offers a poignant commentary on the modern immigrant experience. The production runs from April 25 to May 5 at the MiraCosta College Theatre at 1 Barnard Drive, Oceanside.
Separated from his mother in a tumultuous journey across the United States, the young refugee Anon encounters a diverse tapestry of benevolent and malevolent characters in his quest to reunite with his family. Through Iizuka’s gripping narrative, "Anon(ymous)" weaves a rich tapestry of stories that mirror the struggles and resilience of immigrants. This production gives voice to the voiceless, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and the meaning of home in today’s world.
Director Eric Bishop shared his insights on the play: “With the play, Anon(ymous), we explore what it means to be a refugee (or displaced and/or undocumented person), to seek refuge and find a way home.” Playwright, Naomi Iizuka, wrote a beautiful contemporary, non-linear narrative that parallels the epic Homeric poem, The Odyssey. Our spirited and enthusiastic students have poured their passion into bringing this story to life, inviting audiences from all communities to go on a journey that is as heart-rending as it is hopeful."
