What:

MiraCosta College will conduct its bi-annual emergency preparedness tabletop exercise at the San Elijo Campus. This year’s exercise will bring participants together at a single location to work through a simulated emergency scenario using the Incident Command System (ICS) structure.

The exercise is designed to give members of the College’s Emergency Preparedness Team an opportunity to apply emergency response procedures, strengthen coordination, and practice decision-making in a simulated crisis environment.

An earthquake simulation trailer will also be available before the exercise, allowing participants to experience a simulated 8.0-magnitude earthquake.

When:

Friday, September 25, 2026
Earthquake simulation: Beginning at approximately 8 a.m.
Tabletop exercise: 8:30 a.m.–12 p.m.

Impacts:

• Emergency preparedness activities will take place at the San Elijo Campus in the morning.
• Campus community members may notice emergency preparedness personnel and equipment on-site.
• The earthquake simulation trailer will be located on campus as part of the exercise.

Note: This exercise will take place only at the San Elijo Campus.

Why:

The exercise is part of MiraCosta College’s ongoing commitment to emergency preparedness and provides an opportunity to strengthen coordination, communication, and response procedures before an actual emergency occurs.
