MiraCosta Community College will continue operating its Technology Career Institute in Carlsbad through 2031 under a new five-year lease.
The facility, located on Las Palmas Drive near McClellan-Palomar Airport, provides hands-on, low-cost workforce training in manufacturing, technology, and engineering. Programs include machinists, drone operators, welding, and craft brewing.
The new lease replaces an agreement set to expire in September and is expected to generate $521,358 in rent for the city over five years. Annual rent starts at $93,415 and increases to $115,725 with a 5.5 percent yearly increase.
The Carlsbad City Council unanimously approved the lease on April 14. City leaders praised MiraCosta’s role in workforce development and its impact on building a strong local talent pipeline.
MiraCosta has operated at the 22,627-square-foot site since 2014, continuing a long-standing partnership with the city.
