Ramel Bethea, a 28-year-old freshman at MiraCosta College, is making waves in his first season of college basketball. Standing at 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot wingspan, Bethea took an unconventional path to the sport. After high school, he spent years figuring out his future, working at a grocery store, and later serving five years in the Navy. It wasn’t until he was 22 that he seriously pursued basketball. Now, he’s proving that talent and determination can lead to success, no matter the timeline.
