Take just five minutes to chat with
Bryce Wettstein and you can’t help but smile.
Despite being one of the busiest MiraCosta College students at the moment, Bryce stands out not just for her impressive talents but for her infectious energy and spirit.
Whether it’s recording in the music studio, studying with classmates at MiraCosta College, practicing ballet at the local YMCA, or chasing gold medals at the Olympics, one thing is certain – Bryce finds joy in everything she does.
Beamed Bryce, “College helps me be a better skateboarder; skateboarding allows me to express myself and continue being creative through music; and both skateboarding and music make me appreciate the knowledge I’m gaining in the classroom.”
It’s all part of the harmony of life, as Bryce explained, “Each aspect of life is a new opportunity to learn from the other and grow as a whole.”
Growing up in Encinitas, Bryce always excelled academically, athletically, and creatively. At the age of five, she started skateboarding at the local YMCA. As she grew older, her talents and career in sport flourished. In just the past few years, Bryce has traveled across the globe and stood on podiums at a wide variety of national and international skateboarding championships. And this summer, she will once again represent Team USA Skateboarding as she travels to Paris for the 2024 Olympics.
Yet amid all her accomplishments, it’s Bryce’s character that stands out most to those who know her. Bryce’s multifaceted personality and creativity resonate with fans and fellow athletes alike, making her a popular figure in the skateboarding community.
No matter how busy her life gets, Bryce still places the same amount of energy and attention on her other passions, including music and academics. In fact, Bryce half-seriously, half-jokingly admitted that she was still trying to find a way to fit in a couple of MiraCosta College classes while competing in Paris.
“I love being able to embrace so many things,” shared Bryce. “And I’m grateful for all these opportunities right now in life.”
Continued Bryce, “MiraCosta College has become such a special place for me. The professors are so supportive and the culture of curiosity that the school fosters allows me to explore who I am and the subjects that I feel most strongly about.”
So, while she may have to take some time off for the Olympics, Bryce is excited to start back in the fall and pursue a degree in social psychology. Until then, she is proud to represent Team USA, her hometown of Encinitas, and her MiraCosta College community at the Paris Olympics.
