MiraCosta College Presents the Latino Book & Family Festival: Celebrating Culture and Literacy

05/22/2023

As one of the largest cultural events of the year, the annual Latino Book & Family Festival showcases the richness of Latino culture and the power of literacy. This eagerly anticipated event features over 125 exhibitors organized into themed villages, highlighting authors, children, community, education, health, delectable food, and captivating entertainment.

Mark your calendars for June 10, 2023, as we come together from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the scenic MiraCosta College Oceanside Campus at 1 Barnard Drive. Organized by Empowering Latino Futures, this festival proudly welcomes over 30 accomplished authors who have penned works across diverse genres, focusing on Latino experiences.

The event will feature keynote speakers: Reyna Grande, the acclaimed author of The Distance Between Us, A Dream Called Home, Across a Hundred Mountains, Dancing with Butterflies, and A Ballad of Love and Glory; Jimmy Figueroa, the inspiring executive director of Operation Hope and a motivational speaker from Oceanside; and the best-known author in North San Diego County, Victor Villaseñor.

The festival includes activities for the whole family: a dedicated children's stage, bilingual engagements, and exciting book giveaways. Furthermore, informative workshops will feature authors and experts addressing health, education, and financial empowerment topics.

Established in Los Angeles in 1997 and co-produced by the renowned actor and community activist Edward James Olmos, the Latino Book & Family Festival catalyzes literacy, culture, and education within a warm and inclusive environment suitable for all family members.
