STREAM Festival on April 29 Offers Engaging Activities at MiraCosta College
From 3-D printing to making fossils, the 18th annual STREAM Festival at MiraCosta College on April 29 offers lots of ways for visitors to learn about the arts and sciences.
The festival is being held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the MiraCosta College campus at One Barnard Drive in Oceanside. The free event is open to the community; parking is also free.
The festival’s activities in STREAM (science, technology, reading/writing, engineering, arts and math) were created by MiraCosta College students and their professors to increase curiosity for STREAM subjects and careers as well as to encourage visitors to consider attending the college.
MiraCosta Service Learning Program Manager Beatriz Palmer explained, “We are excited to host the annual STREAM Festival with indoor activities. These experiences might ignite curiosity or passion for future architects, engineers, medical researchers, and bioengineers. Most importantly being on a college campus for our future first generation college students helps to imagine the possibilities. My hope is that visiting youth will see themselves in our college students who will be facilitating these amazing STREAM activities. Additionally, but no less important, our students get to experience the power of service learning as they become the experts for a day!”
Some of the activities are being held in labs, such as a demonstration of cow eyeball dissections, and other demonstrations will be offered by biotechnology students. In the Maker’s Lab, students will be preparing 3-D printing and a demonstration of a remote-control car with a built-in camera. Other activities will be held throughout the campus, including the Library, Veterans Club, the Equity Team, and Arts and English students.
The first 500 children to attend will receive a STREAM swag bag. Parking is free. Look for the STREAM signage to direct visitors to Parking Lot OC-3C and to the registration booth.

Festival STREAM el 29 de abril Ofrece Actividades Divertidas en MiraCosta College
Acompáñanos a nuestro décimo octavo aniversario de La Feria STREAM (Ciencia, Tecnología, Lectura/Escritura, Ingeniería, Arte, y Matemáticas). Se llevará a cabo en MiraCosta College el sábado, 29 de abril, empezará a las 11am y se acabará a las 2pm en nuestro campus de Oceanside, localizado en 1 Barnard Drive.
El evento es gratuito para todos en la familia. Tanto adultos como niños y jóvenes dentro de las edades preescolares a la secundaria están cordialmente invitados.
Durante el evento nuestros estudiantes universitarios patrocinaran actividades divertidas y educativas. Esta es una gran oportunidad para visitar tu colegio comunitario e informarte sobre los recursos y servicios disponibles, como clases de inglés y cursos de colegiatura gratuitos.
Nos complace anunciar que este año ciertas actividades se llevarán a cabo dentro de los laboratorios. Por ejemplo, una de las actividades incluye diseccionar un ojo de vaca, actividad perfecta para nuestros futuros doctores. El departamento de Biotecnología no se quedará atrás y ofrecerá actividades muy interesantes.
La directora de Service Learning, Beatriz Palmer comenta “Nos da tanto gusto abrir nuestro colegio a las familias y niños/as de North County. Será un día divertido lleno de actividades prácticas para aprender sobre la ciencia, tecnología, lectura, ingeniería, arte y matemáticas (STREAM). Tres años después de la pandemia, ¡finalmente tendremos actividades dentro de los laboratorios! Esperamos que estas experiencias inspiren curiosidad para aprender sobre las carreras de STREAM. Gustosamente damos la bienvenida a las familias que por primera vez ponen pie en un campus universitario. Mi anhelo es que los pequeños, la juventud y sus familias encuentren una fuente de inspiración ya que nuestros propios estudiantes universitarios son los que presentaran las actividades prácticas del STREAM. Este dia nuestros estudiantes universitarios de service learning se convierten en expertos mientras dan servicio a nuestra comunidad. Hablamos español."
Nuestro Makers Lab en el departamento de Ingeniería y Arquitectura estará abierto y los estudiantes prepararan dinámicas con carros manejados bajo control remoto y una camera integrada. Los niños/jóvenes tendrán la oportunidad de aprender cómo usar una impresora 3D entre muchas actividades más.
Nuestra biblioteca, departamento de Equidad Estudiantil, y la facultad de las ramas de Matemáticas, Ingles y Arte también ofrecerán actividades.
