National Hispanic Heritage Month : Sep 15- Oct 15

09/15/2022

Welcome to the start of Chicanx/Latinx Heritage Month! Thank you to all the outstanding staff, faculty, students, and administrators who created such a robust programming schedule. As we expand our programming beyond just a set month, you will find that Chicanx/Latinx programming has an array of activities through November! We invite you to attend the fantastic events planned if it is within your capacity. Special thank you to every student, department, and individual committee members who have dedicated their time and service to ensure MiraCosta has culturally relevant programming.

In conjunction with MiraCosta’s mission to serve disproportionately impacted communities and close the equity gap, the district celebrates its Chicanx and Latinx Heritage Series. Chicanx and Latinx Heritage month, also known as Latinx Heritage Month, started as a weeklong celebration in 1968 and has grown to a month from September 15 through October 15 to incorporate the independence days of Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, and Nicaragua. In addition, the month recognizes the legacies and contributions of individuals who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. Here at the college, in observance of Board Resolution No. 2-22/23, we celebrate the achievements and history of the Chicanx and Latinx community during the observed month and throughout the year.
