MiraCosta College has released the Teal Jobs Report: A Look at the Green and Blue Economies of North County San Diego, an in-depth analysis of the emerging workforce opportunities that unite sustainability, innovation, and economic growth, helping students and community members find purpose in the work they do.

The Teal Jobs Report reveals that more than 7,500 new jobs are projected across green and blue economy sectors in the region by 2029, offering high-wage, high-demand career pathways in fields that promote environmental stewardship and economic resilience.

The term “Teal Jobs” reflects the integration of the green economy (land-based sustainability and renewable energy sectors) and the blue economy (ocean-based industries focused on sustainability and equity). Together, these sectors represent not only the future of work in coastal California but also the future of purpose-driven careers where innovation and impact go hand in hand.

“This report shows that North County San Diego is poised to become a hub for sustainable innovation,” said Ben Gamboa, associate dean of career education at MiraCosta College. “By aligning education with these emerging industries, we can prepare our students to lead in careers that strengthen both our economy and our planet. For many, that’s their why—to make a meaningful difference through their work.”
