MiraCosta College has hired four new administrators who will help to lead the college’s efforts to transform the lives of its students through innovative teaching and support services.
“These administrators come from varied backgrounds, but they all share our commitment to providing an outstanding educational experience for all our students,” said MiraCosta College Superintendent/President Sunita V. Cooke.
The newly-named administrators are:
Jim Dorris, Director of Enterprise Application Services. Dorris is responsible for managing the team of web programmers who keep the college’s information systems operating. He came to MiraCosta College in October 2022 as a developer and was promoted to senior applications developer in July 2024. Dorris previously worked in information systems at the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District, San Diego State University, and Warner Pacific University. He has a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Warner Pacific University and a bachelor’s degree from CSU Long Beach.
Lauren Halsted, Dean of Humanities, Communications and Mathematics. Before coming to MiraCosta in January 2025, Halsted had served as dean of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at Cuyamaca College after working as an English professor there. She has a master’s degree in English Literature from San Francisco State University and a bachelor’s degree in English from UC Santa Barbara. She earned her doctorate in community college leadership from San Diego State University.
Shanon Macintyre, Director, Technology Support Services. Macintyre is responsible for managing the college’s help desk team, computer labs, media services team and technology support analysts, along with computer training. She was named to the permanent position in October 2024 after serving as interim director since July 2023. Before coming to MiraCosta College, Macintyre worked for more than 25 years in information technology, with a career spanning aerospace and defense, education, healthcare, and technology industries. She earned her bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Management from DeVry University.
Thomas Tubon, Executive Director, Community Education and Workforce. In his role, he leads industry-driven workforce development and community education initiatives, particularly within the life sciences and emerging technology sectors. Tubon previously served as the chief workforce development officer for the Bioindustrial Manufacturing and Design Ecosystem Manufacturing Institute, where he led the launch of national education initiatives aimed at enhancing workforce capacity. He previously worked as a professor in the biotechnology program at the Madison College in Wisconsin. Tubon earned his doctorate degree in molecular genetics from Stony Brook University and his bachelor’s degree in molecular biology from San Diego State University.
