As Public Safety Awareness Month comes to a close, MiraCosta College proudly showcases the leadership of its Chief of Police, Valencia "Val" Saadat. Bringing nearly three decades of law enforcement experience and a deep commitment to community safety, Saadat plays a key role in ensuring MiraCosta remains a safe environment for students, faculty, and staff.

The esteemed Chief of the MiraCosta College Police Department, Valencia Saadat, has had an impactful career in law enforcement that began almost 30 years ago with the Oceanside Police Department. There, she rose to the rank of lieutenant, excelling in field operations and investigations while managing hundreds of critical police operations. Her innovative spirit led to the creation of a Student Academy, which prepared high school students for careers in law enforcement, shaping future public safety professionals.

Chief Saadat’s contributions to the Oceanside community go beyond her operational leadership. As a patrol officer, she made significant strides with the NETwork (Neighborhood Enhancement Team), working to build trust within local neighborhoods and address gang-related activity. Her efforts were recognized with numerous accolades, including the City of Oceanside Partnership Award and multiple Team of the Quarter honors from the Oceanside Police Department.

A proud alumna of MiraCosta College, Saadat credits her success in law enforcement to the foundational education she received at the college. She emphasizes the importance of higher education in advancing her career, noting that her academic journey at MiraCosta helped her prepare for each new level of leadership. Continuing this family tradition, both her children are also MiraCosta graduates who have pursued successful careers.

Saadat’s commitment to education and mentorship is evident through her role as an adjunct associate faculty member in the Administration of Justice program at MiraCosta College, where she guides students aspiring to careers in law enforcement. Additionally, she serves on the MiraCosta College Foundation Board of Directors, chairing the Innovation Grants & Scholarships Committee, furthering her dedication to enhancing educational opportunities for students.

Her leadership extends into the broader community, where she is actively involved with the North San Diego Chapter of the NAACP and previously served as the North County Special Olympics Regional Area Director. Through these roles, Saadat inspires others to pursue public service and positively impact their communities.

As MiraCosta College reflects on Public Safety Awareness Month, it recognizes the invaluable leadership of Chief Saadat in fostering a secure campus environment and promoting community trust. Her legacy of service, safety, and education continues to shape the future of law enforcement in North County San Diego and beyond.
