Emmy Win for MiraCosta Alumna Kathleen Parra for Directing Excellence in Broadcast Journalism

MiraCosta College proudly announces that alumna Kathleen Parra has been honored with an Emmy Award for her exceptional work as a Newscast Director at FOX 5 and KUSI News. Parra received the Director Live or Recorded Live category award, showcasing her outstanding talent and dedication to the field of broadcast journalism.

Parra, who completed her Video & Media Design certificate at MiraCosta College only two years ago, has made significant strides in her career, earning recognition and respect within the industry. Her recent Emmy win highlights her remarkable achievements and the impact of her educational foundation.

"Receiving an Emmy as a MiraCosta alumna is a tremendous honor for me and my family," Parra said. "I attribute part of my success to the support of Professors Leigh, Karl, Min, Scott, and others. I am thankful for the guidance from my alma maters and FOX 5 San Diego, which have been instrumental in shaping who I am today."

In addition to her Emmy win, Parra was featured in the Spring 2024 Transforming Lives issue, which celebrates the first 90 years of MiraCosta College. Read the publication here.
