Alumna Inspires Graduates with Her Journey From a Troubled Past to Earning a Degree from SDSU

MiraCosta College alumna Vanessa Villarreal delivered an inspiring message to fellow Guardian Scholars graduates: "You are enough." Villarreal, who overcame a tumultuous childhood filled with foster placements, addiction, and legal troubles, emphasized resilience and self-worth. After spending time in juvenile detention and completing a rehabilitation program, she turned her life around. Villarreal earned her associate’s degree from MiraCosta College and transferred to San Diego State University, graduating with a bachelor’s in psychology. Now planning to pursue a master’s in social work, Villarreal's journey highlights her determination to create a better future for herself and her daughter.
