    Bio

    John Makevich has joined MiraCosta College as the Dean of Continuing and Community Education. Prior to his current position, John was the Dean of the School of Personal and Professional Learning at College of the Canyons, where he provided oversight of educational programs serving students looking for an entry point into higher education, as well as students seeking to get retrained for new opportunities.

    John has experience providing leadership for local, regional, and statewide projects in adult education, career education, and online education. He brings almost ten years of experience in the online education domain, and is now using that experience to grow opportunities in MiraCosta’s adult and career education programs. In addition, John has years of community college teaching experience, both online and in face-to-face formats. His areas of instruction have included meteorology and Earth science courses. John has a M.S. degree in Atmospheric Sciences from The University of Arizona, and a B.S. degree in Earth Sciences from University of California, San Diego. In addition, he is currently enrolled in an Ed.D. program in Leadership and Innovation at Arizona State University.
