Short Summary
A mentor and role model for others in their field, Linda is a trendsetter with her vast community and civic engagement. Upon receiving requests from various San Diego companies in need of employees with specific technical skills, she took a concept and fostered it to fruition. Beginning with no capital funds, no facilities available to use for labs, no equipment, no curriculum and no instructors, she was able to succeeded in launching MiraCosta College’s Technology Career Institute (TCI). Today, the TCI incorporates work-skills and technical-training programs to help meet the industry’s demand for labor.
Bio
Linda Kurokawa, director of community education and workforce development at MiraCosta College, was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of Community & Continuing Education. Kurokawa was recognized for being a mentor and role model for others in their field. She received kudos for starting
MiraCosta’s Technology Career Institute
for job training. She was also recognized for starting a program called College for Kids at Palomar College, and later expanding the program at MiraCosta, for youths to come onto the college campus in the summer and take academically challenging classes.
