Meet Aaliyah Arce

Before she ever stepped onto the field for MiraCosta College, Aaliyah Arce decided the kind of student-athlete she wanted to be: Show up with purpose. Compete with discipline. Grow in every space she enters.

That mindset now defines her first year and the way she represents MiraCosta in the classroom, at training, and on game day.

Arce chose MiraCosta for its balance. A place where academics matter as much as athletics. A program that would challenge her in the classroom while pushing her to compete at a higher level on the field. Staying close to home and connected to her community made the decision feel right.

“I chose MiraCosta College because it offered a strong balance between academics and athletics,” Arce said. “I wanted a school where I could challenge myself in the classroom while continuing to grow as a soccer player in a competitive program. Being close to home and familiar with the community also made it feel like the right fit for me.”

Her first year has been fast-paced and demanding. College coursework, paired with the expectations of a competitive season, required an immediate adjustment. Instead of backing down, Arce leaned in and embraced the growth that came with it.

“My first year has been exciting and eye-opening,” she said. “It’s a big adjustment managing the pace of college classes along with the demands of a competitive season, but it’s also been rewarding. I’ve built strong friendships with my teammates and learned a lot about discipline and time management.”

Structure became essential. Arce plans her schedule around practices, games, study time, and assignments to stay ahead. Communication with professors and coaches helps her stay aligned, while discipline keeps her grounded during the season's busiest weeks.

“I use a schedule to map out practices, games, study time, and assignments so I don’t fall behind,” she said. “Communication with professors and coaches is essential. Staying disciplined and making the most of free time has helped me stay on track.”

The biggest challenge came in adjusting to the speed and expectations of college competition. The transition pushed her outside her comfort zone and forced her to grow mentally and physically.

“One of the biggest challenges has been adjusting to the level of competition and expectations,” Arce said. “It pushed me outside of my comfort zone, but it’s helped me grow mentally and physically. I’ve learned to stay resilient, accept feedback, and trust the process.”

Through it all, her support system has remained constant. Family continues to motivate her, while coaches and teammates push her daily and create a culture rooted in accountability and progress.

Women’s Soccer Head Coach Daniel Salas sees that commitment in the way Arce approaches everything she does.

“Aaliyah represents the mindset we want in our program,” Salas said. “She comes in ready to work, embraces challenges, and holds herself to a high standard in the classroom and on the field. She’s the type of student-athlete who raises the level of everyone around her.”

Arce’s goals extend well beyond this season. She plans to transfer to a four-year university, major in kinesiology, and pursue a career as a physical therapist. She also hopes to continue playing soccer and competing at the next level.

To her, being a MiraCosta student-athlete means more than performance.

“It means representing the school with pride, supporting my teammates, and holding myself to a high standard in everything I do,” Arce said. “It also means being part of a community that pushes me to grow not just as a player, but as a person.”

Moments along the way reinforce that purpose. Delivering a ceremonial First Kick at  Frontwave Arena stood out as one of those experiences. Growing up attending San Diego Sockers games, stepping onto that field to represent MiraCosta felt personal and full circle.

“It was such a special and full-circle moment for me,” Arce said. “I felt proud, grateful, and excited to represent the program and the community I grew up watching.”

For Arce, the journey is just beginning. Each class, each training session, and each match adds another layer to who she is becoming. What remains constant is her approach: Stay disciplined. Stay grounded. Keep growing.
