Esther Nair’s journey showcases the transformative power of education and resilience. With a bachelor’s degree in biomanufacturing from MiraCosta College, Nair has built a thriving career in biotechnology and achieved personal success, including homeownership and a fulfilling family life.

Her path to success began when she sought out MiraCosta College during a pivotal moment in her life. At the time, she was navigating significant challenges, including providing for herself and her two children while going through a divorce. Despite these obstacles, Nair’s determination to create a better future for her family led her to MiraCosta’s innovative programs.

Raised in a traditional family where college and career were not prioritized for women, Nair broke from convention to pursue higher education. With the help of a MiraCosta College counselor, she discovered her aptitude for science, which ultimately led her to enroll in the college’s new biomanufacturing bachelor’s degree program. As Nair recalls, “I wanted to develop a career that needed specific education and training.”

Her academic journey was enriched by hands-on experiences such as a stem cell research internship and campus jobs that allowed her to support her family while gaining valuable skills. Nair attributes much of her success to the unwavering support of MiraCosta faculty and staff, including biotechnology instructional associate Joanna Gomez, who provided guidance and kept students informed about opportunities like scholarships and grants.

Nair graduated in 2021 and began working at Native Microbials, Inc., where she has since advanced to senior quality assurance specialist. Her degree from MiraCosta opened doors to career growth and financial stability.
