Monique Oliveros is a proud alumni of MiraCosta College, where she began her journey in nursing in 2018 by pursuing her
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license. With over 20 years of experience as a medical assistant, Monique always harbored a deep-seated dream of becoming a nurse. It was at MiraCosta where this dream began to take shape, thanks to the exceptional education, support, and encouragement she received from her instructors.
Monique's decision to become a nurse was deeply personal. After witnessing the profound impact that nurses had on her father during his illness, Monique was inspired to provide the same level of compassionate care to others. This experience, combined with her observations of the disparities in patient care, fueled her determination to make a difference in the nursing field. She reflected, "I knew then that I wanted to provide comfort and strength for others in their time of need," a sentiment that has guided her throughout her journey.
At MiraCosta, Monique was struck by the rigorous and hands-on nature of the nursing program. The theory classes were challenging, the lab sessions were immersive, and the simulations were incredibly realistic, preparing her for real-world nursing with critical thinking and practical application. Her instructors not only imparted the essential skills of the profession but also inspired Monique to approach nursing with compassion, dignity, and respect.
Monique had the unique opportunity to complete her final semester in the newly opened Teresa M. Hayden Hall for Nursing and Allied Health. She was deeply impressed by the advanced technology and thoughtful design of the simulation rooms, which brought her education to life. These high-tech simulations, whether responding to a stroke or assisting in a simulated birth, were invaluable in preparing her for the challenges of the nursing profession.
MiraCosta College has played a pivotal role in shaping Monique into the nurse she is today. She credits the college's exceptional nursing program and dedicated faculty for her growth and development. Inspired by her experiences, Monique plans to return to MiraCosta to pursue the bridge program next year, continuing her journey in nursing.
As she reflects on her time at MiraCosta, Monique sees the Teresa M. Hayden Hall as more than just a building; it is a beacon of hope and a symbol of the future of healthcare education. She believes that the students who learn within its walls will go on to touch countless lives, just as MiraCosta has touched hers. Monique Oliveros embodies the spirit of MiraCosta College—dedicated, compassionate, and committed to making a difference in the world through nursing.
