Meet Our Students, Staff, & Alumni
MiraCosta College nursing student Trong Tran affirms that his training at local hospitals during the pandemic has solidified his career choice. I saw some really sad cases, said Trong. It just makes me want to become a nurse even more. Nurses have to care for patients during a 12-hour shift. I want to be there to provide that care.

Trong, who grew up near Saigon, had always been interested in the medical field. Unable to secure a spot in a Vietnamese program for training physicians, he opted for nursing training in his native country. With a desire to study abroad, Trong started at MiraCosta College in Fall 2020, following stints at Palomar College and a university in Houston.
Obtaining the required training for his nursing degree posed a unique set of challenges during the pandemic. Yet, Trong praises MiraCosta College's faculty and staff for securing him nursing rotations at esteemed healthcare facilities like Tri-City Hospital, Kaiser Permanente, and Palomar Health Center. The faculty and staff here are awesome, Trong exclaimed. They listen to our concerns and do everything possible to give us the experience we need. They've been incredibly supportive.

Set to graduate this spring, Trong aspires to work in a U.S. hospital after completing his education. His time at MiraCosta has deepened his appreciation for the essential role nurses play in patient care. Developing a relationship with a patient is really rewarding, he concluded.
