Children with Special Learning Needs

This course focuses on learning to work with children with a wide range of abilities, challenging behaviors, and other special learning needs in inclusive early childhood settings. Topics include attention to relevant special education legislation and family-focused practices. The course emphasizes adapting programming, curriculum and classroom teaching strategies to meet the needs of all young children, including those from culturally diverse backgrounds.

Instructor notes: This course is fully online and will be launched in Canvas. The textbook we will be using is: Cook, R.E., Klein, M.D., and Chen, D (2016) Adapting Early Childhood Curricula for Children with Disabilities and Special Needs. 10th edition. If you are enrolled in the course, I will be sending a welcome email a week prior to the class starting. I will also open the orientation modules at that time so you can take a peek at the syllabus and get acquainted with using Canvas. NOTE: You are required to post an introduction post in the "Introduction Discussion Board" before the end of the day on the second day of class, January 23, 2020.
