Sunday, August 20, 2023 Update
Dear MiraCosta College Students and Community,
As MiraCosta College prepares to welcome you to the start of the fall 2023 semester, we want you to be aware of Tropical Storm Hilary's impact on San Diego County today, August 20. The storm is expected to bring widespread rain and winds that may intensify this afternoon but subside later in the evening.
After closely assessing all current weather models, MiraCosta College will maintain normal campus operations at all four sites—Oceanside Campus (OC), Community Learning Center (CLC), San Elijo (SAN), and Technology Career Institute (TCI)—for the start of the fall 2023 semester.
Your safety is our priority! Please give yourself extra time for your commute since weather conditions may affect traffic. Please inform your instructor if you cannot attend classes due to weather-related issues. Rest assured that our faculty will be flexible with attendance, making necessary adjustments for those impacted.
Help Huts Relocated: In response to the weather, the Help Hut locations will move indoors as follows:
- Oceanside Campus: Student Center Building (OC3400) and the Administration Building (OC1000)
- San Elijo Campus: Student Services & Administration Building (SAN1100)
- Community Learning Center: Student Services Building (CLC300)

Friday, August 18, 2023 Update
MiraCosta College, in coordination with College Police, is closely monitoring Hurricane Hilary (currently classified as a tropical storm), which is anticipated to reach San Diego county this coming weekend. The safety and well-being of our District community remains our foremost priority.
On campus, we are actively taking comprehensive precautions to secure all areas against the potential threat of excessive rain and wind. If you are on campus today, we request your cooperation in securing outdoor objects, closing office windows, moving A-frames inside, etc. In addition, our facilities team has ensured gutters and drains can accommodate excess water flow.
Based on all current weather models available we anticipate maintaining normal campus operations, but the impact could change over the next day or two. At this time, all campus sites are to be open on Monday, August 21, to welcome everyone to the fall 2023 semester with classes proceeding as scheduled.
The Help Huts will be relocated indoors. On the Oceanside Campus, the Help Huts will be relocated to the Student Center Building and the Administration Building; for the San Elijo Campus to the Administration Building; and Building 300 at our Community Learning Center.
Please remain vigilant on Sunday and Monday, monitoring your District email, the MiraCosta College website, social media, and local news channels for further updates. We will issue additional information as needed. Should you experience any personal impacts due to the storm, please notify your Manager or Supervisor without delay.
