OCEANSIDE — Erica Alfaro wrote the book she would have wanted to read 15 years ago. Back then, she had become a teenage mother, was a victim of domestic violence and spoke little English.

But two years ago, she was a college graduate, who attracted international attention. Her SDSU graduation photo went viral. Alfaro, in cap and gown, smiling with her parents, both immigrant farm workers, posing in the middle of a strawberry field in Carlsbad.
