EVENT CANCELLED MiraCosta College Community Leaders Event and Open House

10/24/2021

Thank you for your reservation for Monday's Community Leaders Open House at MiraCosta College's Community Learning Center (CLC). Unfortunately, while we were looking forward to seeing our local business leaders, elected officials, community members, donors, and MiraCostans, due to the anticipated yet unprecedented amount of rain and wind for this time of year, we are forced to CANCEL THE EVENT.

If you are in the area, please stop by for a goodie bag and to-go refreshments. MiraCosta College staff will be available to provide a one-on-one tour of the new building. Otherwise, the Office of Advancement will make arrangements to deliver the special edition of the 2020-21 Annual Report and souvenir coffee cup.

Local business leaders, elected officials, community members, donors, and others are invited to join MiraCosta College for the Community Leader’s Open House of the Community Learning Center.

The event will include a tour of the newly constructed 10,770 square foot Student Services Building at the Community Learning Center Campus and release of the District’s Annual Report.

The Student Services Building serves as the home for essential student support services, including Admissions and Records, Counseling, Testing Services, CARE, and the Student Success and Support Programs. The new building, along with a dramatic new monument sign at the entrance to the campus, provides a welcoming new gateway for the Community Learning Center.

The student gathering area opens to a plaza within a quad, providing a physical connection between the new building and the existing facilities to help unify the campus. The quad will allow for large events and includes bike racks, a seat wall, tables, and a campus information kiosk.

The $12.3 million facility is highly energy-efficient and includes several sustainable design strategies:

  • Passive sun shading/roof overhang

  • An abundance of natural light inside the building via storefronts and skylights

  • Use of 'green' materials, including the lobby floor, which is polished concrete with recycled glass chips using the colors of the nearby ocean

  • Low water use through high-efficiency fixtures and plumbing, and native and drought-tolerant landscape

  • All stormwater is treated on-site, using landscaped bio-detention areas to filter the stormwater

Additional projects at the Community Learning Center Campus funded by Measure MM include the renovation of the A and B buildings, (now known as the 100 and 200 buildings, and a site improvement project. Buildings 100 and 200 comprise nearly 39,000 square feet and will house  the campus library, tutoring services, the California Adult Education program, classroom space, and faculty offices. The $13 million project is scheduled to be completed this month.

The site work project also includes demolition of the former Building C to create space for critically-needed parking and improved landscaped areas for campus use. This project is in the design phase currently, with construction planned for the summer and fall of 2022.

These projects are funded as part of MiraCosta's Measure MM, a $455 million general obligation bond approved by voters in 2016.
