POT Workshops First Friday: Fall 2009
First Friday sessions are:
Sept 4: Second Life (Randall Cornish), Room 4622, 2-3:50 pm
Oct 2: online session: Time-Saving Tips (Louisa Moon) -- online, 11:00-1:50 pm
Nov 6: Tablet P.C.: A Flexible Tool (Julie Harland) -- Room 3608, 11:00-1:50 pm
Julie Harland will demonstrate how to teach using the tablet P.C. in a variety of instances. The tablet P.C. is especially useful to instructors in disciplines where typing is not the best mode; e.g., mathematics is easier to write by hand. Tablet P.C.s allow the instructor to write on the screen using a special electronic pen. On method is to use the tablet P.C. in the classroom, in place of a whiteboard or a blackboard. Instructors then have the option of making a pdf of everything written during class to post and/or email to students. Another use is to write notes outside of class, and post or email. This also works very well for online classes. It is also convenient to use the Tablet P.C. in conjunction with Camtasia to make a video (including audio) of anything done on the Tablet. These can also be posted. Lastly, one can use the Tablet P.C. in conjunction with Elluminate to teach in real time with users all at different sites on their own computer. Elluminate sessions can be recorded for students to watch at a later time, so it can be synchronous or not.
