MiraCosta College to Award More than $266,250 in Fall 2020 Scholarships

09/16/2020
Consistently serving the needs of students, the MiraCosta College Foundation has issued more than $266,250 in scholarships, celebrating both the donors and award recipients.

Recent 2020 graduate and scholarship recipient, Fatima Ezzaouia relied on scholarships to pull through her academic studies and a transitional period in her life. Ezzaouia was raised in Morocco by a single mother and had to start working at the age of 12. She overcame many obstacles to get a programming degree in Morocco and immigrated to the United States in 2008 to join her husband and two children. In 2015, she decided to go back to school.

“I was taking English as a second language class at the Community Learning Center, while working and taking care of my children. I had no car, so I had to walk my girls to school. Then I applied for financial aid, which I used for food and transportation. The scholarships I have received during my educational journey allowed me to access supplies and resources to succeed.”

Ezzaouia, a recent Osher Initiative for California Community College Students Endowment scholar, graduated in spring 2020 with an associate degree in accounting.

“I don’t know where I would be without the support of scholarships, EOPS, financial aid, and all the MiraCosta College counselors,” expressed Ezzaouia.

Ezzaouia’s scholarship success story is one of the more than 275 recipients, all of whom succeed through the financial support of scholarships.
