Math Learning Center (MLC) Orientation Page
for Self-Paced Classes

If you are enrolled in a MLC Self-Paced Class (or are thinking about adding a Self-Paced Class) you are in the right place!

Welcome to Part I and Part II of the Orientation for the MLC Self-Paced classes!

  • If you are enrolled in one of our classes, print out the Orientation Worksheet and please complete both parts of the mandatory orientation. (Note: This is the same worksheet found in the orientation section in MyMathLab. You only need to print and fill it in once.) Part I consists of following the four (4) steps below. Part II of your mandatory orientation is described below, but must be completed from within your required materials. Once you have completed both parts of the orientation, your orientation is complete and you can begin work in the class.

  • If you are considering enrolling in one of our classes, please follow Part I Step 1 and Step 2 below. These two steps answer just about every question students have about our classes. If, after reading Steps 1 & 2, you are interested in enrolling in one of our classes (and you have met the prerequisite), please complete the remainder of the steps in Part I and Part II of the orientation. Then, come in to the MLC during the Hours of Instruction and ask to have an add card signed. The Instructor on Duty will check that you have completed both parts of the orientation and then will sign an add card for you. Please note that a signed add card means that you can have a space in our class IF you are eligible to be in the class. If you are unsure as to whether or not you are eligible to be in the class, please come in to the MLC during the Hours of Instruction and ask to speak to the Instructor on Duty BEFORE you invest in the online materials.
After going through these steps carefully and thoroughly, if you have a question that has not been answered, please send your question to mlc@miracosta.edu.

You will need to following information to register in MyMathLab:

  • Course ID Code. The Course ID Codes are created by MML and are NOT the same as section numbers. All Course ID Codes look like "mlc######" Please choose the appropriate Course ID Code from the list found at the link below. Note: There is NO hardcopy of a textbook required in this class. Your required online materials contain an eBook for this class.
If you are not comfortable reading in an ebook as your "textbook", you may want to additionally purchase a hard copy of the textbook. An older version would be fine - you can just match up the content in the older version with the current version ebook that is included in your required materials.

Orientation Part I Step 4 - Bookmark the Following Two URLs

http://hub.miracosta.edu/MLC/CAI/syllabi/Fall2008.pdf- Your Syllabus

- Access to Your Required Materials

Orientation Part II - Access Your Required Materials (MyMathLab) and Complete the Steps in the 'Orientation' Link

Once you have purchased and redeemed access to your required materials, log in to them (http://www.coursecompass.com/) and click on the link to your class materials. The class materials link will look something like "Math 101B August 19 - September 1". Once in your class materials, please do the following two (2) steps:

A. Click on each link in the class menu (on the left).
You need to be very familiar with where everything in the class is located
(Homework, Quizzes, Discussion Board, eBook, Tracked Tutorial Exercises (Practice Problems), Lecture Videos, Power Point Presentations (no ppt for Math 130). Course Calendar, etc.).
Once you have poked around enough and are familiar with where everything is (i.e. you've at least located the Homework, Quizzes, Discussion Boards, eBook, Tracked Tutorial Exercises (Practice Problems), Lecture Videos, Power Point Presentations (no ppt for Math 130) and the Course Calendar) go to the 'Orientation' link.

B. Do all of the activities in the 'Orientation' menu link.

Once you have completed all of the activities described above (both Part I and Part II), you have completed your mandatory orientation. You now need to begin work in the class.

(Once you have completed both parts of your mandatory orientation, you will probably not need to refer back to this page as most of this information is in your syllabus. So, please bookmark your syllabus and refer to it on a regular basis.)
