Do you love building things and imagining futuristic worlds? Have you ever wanted to build a beautiful garden or awesome skyscraper? Take a fun and fascinating journey into the world of building and space creation. This course, like the industry, involves exploring past models; studying sketches of present-day environments; hands-on manipulation of materials; designing through drawing and painting; and combining all this information into building a model. Students will be involved in lectures, critiques, studio work, and labs in order to understand architectural aspects of landscape, structure, and lighting.

Around the World in 5 Days
Explore five different countries from five different continents! Learn and experience the food, music, dance, history and dress of people around the world. How does a Japanese student get to school and do they draw Anime while they are there? Do people in Morocco really eat sheep eyeballs? How high are the German Alps and how difficult it is to breathe at the top? Have you ever heard Bossa Nova music? Why is the New Zealand rugby team doing a dance before a match? Find out the answers to these questions and much, much more!

CinemaStarz! Film Camp
A two-week course in Moviemaking.
Lights, camera, action! Immerse yourself in the worldof filmmaking with this introductory course that covers camera technique, directing, writing, animation, acting, and much more! Young filmmakers will take an active role in all phases of production, from storyboarding to cinematography to editing. In addition, you will have the opportunity to host your own movie screening at the end of the class for peers and family. This fun program will inspire young filmmakers to pursue their creative talents!

Cooking
As a young chef, you will experience hands-on techniques that will turn your cooking into delicious meals! You will learn to make food that is tasty and exciting, while having fun. It's something new every day and often from exotic places! Nutrition and the history and culture of food will also be discussed. Please note that the skills and recipes have been developed specifically for the program age brackets. Long hair must be contained and students must wear close-toed shoes.

Find out how money works and why saving money, shopping for good deals, setting financial goals, using credit cards wisely, and even starting your own business can give you more choices in your life. Come to a fun and interactive class where you get to learn how to be an entrepreneur. You will also explore the important values of philanthropy and generosity.

Etiquette for Young Ladies and Gentlemen
Learn how to get what you want just by changing a few behaviors. Etiquette expert, radio personality, and author Elaine Swann will teach an entertaining and educational program on social etiquette in the 21st century. The interactive instruction will include topics such as hassle-free communication with mom and dad, table manners that will impress your date, and writing a thank you note after receiving an awesome birthday gift (increasing the chance of another great gift). The workshop will also cover school culture issues including positive communication with teachers and staff (might just help you get an A- rather than a B+), lunchtime manners, good sportsmanship, dealing with jokes and gossip, hygiene and grooming, respect among peers, and more. These skills will contribute to success at home, at school and in life! Note to parent: We strongly recommend that you do not send your child to this class if he/she has strong objections.

Fashion Designer
Are you interested in Fashion Design? Attend this week long workshop exploring the world of fashion with hands-on experimentation! From leg warmers and shoulder pads to high heels and the quintessential black dress, you will get a crash course in fashion. Find out what's hot in NY and Milan, and how those trends get to your local department store. You will discuss the history and trends of the industry, learn construction techniques, and address the value of accessories. After analyzing the well-known designers, you will have the chance to implement those ideas into your own design.

Good Time Gardening
Have fun while learning about insects, vegetables and herbs, flowers, soil, and worms. Create garden projects, read stories, write poems, and discover nature. Kids will have the opportunity to create their own herb container garden, learn how to make fresh pesto sauce, and grow their own living wreath! It's a great way for kids to spend lazy summer days learning about the garden. Kids are encouraged to bring a wide brimmed hat and sunscreen. Please provide your child with a container for their herb garden. Containers can be anything that holds soil, can drain water, and is large enough to accommodate three small herb plants. (2 inch pots each) They can be old pots you have lying around the house, or a beach pail with a hole drained in the bottom. Let kids get creative!

Japanese: More than Just Manga!
Learn the Japanese culture through Anime and Manga. Students will learn the history of anime and how it fits into the country's history, culture, traditions, and customs. In addition, students will listen to popular Japanese music, make and eat sushi, and practice speaking and writing Japanese. The creative portion of this class will give you the opportunity to practice the language, taste the food, and experience the art of Japan. By the end of this class, you will be the expert in your family and ready to take them on a tour!

Jewelry, Charms, and More!
Expand your craft ability by making different types of bookmarks, cell phone charms, and REAL jewelry. Have fun learning different techniques of jewelry making, from macramé and braiding, to basic wire wrapping and an introduction to jewelry glass fusing (glass fusing for 5 day program only). Through demonstration and practice, you will be able to take home your special creations!

Superheroes
Most superheroes wear a cool costume, have a special power, and answer to an exciting name. Learn about the superheroes in books, television, movies, and comics… and then invent your own. Design and create a superhero costume, complete with gadgets and hidden alter egos. Write your own story line, act out a scene with your classmates, and then add music to complete the clip. Don't miss this chance to express your special powers!

Survivor Camp
Wilderness Safety & Awareness
Learn how to build natural shelters, purify water, create friction fire, find food in the wild, and master a variety of wilderness crafts. Wilderness skills help people survive in the outdoors and weather the aftermath of natural disasters. You'll learn how to reduce your risk of getting lost and how to react effectively with lifesaving actions if you have a backcountry emergency. Essential clothing and equipment will be examined. In addition, you will work as a team to problem solve. End the week with a field trip to a ropes course where your survival and safety skills are challenged and cooperation is the key to success! Parent volunteers will be needed for transportation to/from Guajome Park Academy on July 10th. Let us know when you register if you would like to volunteer!

Twilight: Welcoming Mortals & Vampires
If you enjoy the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer, this course is for you. This class will have you expanding your creativity in the areas of art, writing, drama, and business. We will analyze the first book of the series through many different activities: creative writing, character analysis, create board games, design marketing materials, write alternate endings, and much more! We will even hold a debate between the "Werewolves" and the "Vampires". It is sure to be a "vamptastic" time! In preparation for this course, please make sure to have the first book read, and bring a copy with you to class each day. Let's hope it's cloudy that week because we don't want our skin to sparkle!

Wild about Writing
We each have something to say, and Robert Frost tells us, “All the fun is in how you say a thing.” Whether you have a wild mind or tame thoughts, your imagination and energy will help you discover your voice in this workshop. We will use stories, journals and discussions to help bring out the story waiting inside you. You will construct and self-publish an illustrated book with a clever cover, original artwork, and an interesting story.

Woodworking
If you've always wanted to try woodworking, but don't know where to begin, this beginners class is for you. You will learn to use a selection of woodworking tools and build several projects to take home! This class is designed to give you a valuable introduction to woodworking so you can gain interest and confidence by having fun creating your first projects.

Young Authors - Creative Writing
In this class, you will learn the basics of good story writing and what makes a good story work. Have fun discussing and then creating characters, plots, and dialogue. We will explore the basics of producing and publishing a novel. At the end of class you will have completed a story book, designed your own cover and illustrations, and read your story for the class.
