The Theatre discipline teaches understanding of current acting
techniques and modern vocational skills to encourage student success
in their artistic endeavors.
The Theatre discipline at MiraCosta College is committed to artistic
enrichment and appreciation of the theatre arts for all students.
The academic discipline seeks to present opportunities for students
(1) to develop an appreciation for theatre; (2) to improve the knowledge
and skills required to work in the theatre arts professionally and
in related careers; (3) to gain awareness, as participants or audience
members, of the influences of theatre in the world.
MiraCosta College Theatre:
Standards of Professionalism
- Be on time. Make it a life habit.
- If possible, be early to your call by at least 5 minutes so you can take care of costume & bathroom needs so we can begin as scheduled.
- Warm-up (vocal and physical) before rehearsal begins.
- Call the hotline daily.
- Bring paper and writing utensil to all note sessions. Write down ALL notes, not just the “constructive ones.”
- “Take the note” without defensive behavior or language.
- Work to build an ensemble atmosphere. Avoid creating or participating in cliques.
- Learn to manage your time wisely.
- Do not direct each other. That is the director or assistant directors job only.
- Refrain from grumbling about the efficiency or timeliness of the rehearsal schedule kept. The production staff is doing the best it can to make everything run smoothly and complaining only makes things worse. Take any complaints to your stage manager, not to each other.
- Come with a positive attitude toward the work.
- Be kind to all who work with you.
- Clean up your own messes.
- Anticipate the needs of others.
- Sexual harassment of any type is intolerable. If in doubt, don’t do it, don’t say it.
- Choose not to react negatively to any situation.
- Have a sense of humor about yourself and others.
- Take compliments with grace.
- Give compliments freely.
- Try what your director asks of you without questioning. Give every idea a try before you argue for your own.
- Give all of your energy to others when they are performing or working. In other words, do not chat while in the theatre or backstage while others are rehearsing.
- Refrain from being a gossip.
- Take your problems to the director or the stage manager, not to each other.
- Keep each others confidences.
- Make your only required reward be “the satisfaction of a job well done.”
